General Question

BEGINNERS QUESTION

Absolutely. Functional fitness for kids and teens is designed with safety as the top priority. The injury rate for functional fitness is lower than many other sports, with only 3.1 injuries per 1000 hours of training, which is comparable to or lower than activities like running, gymnastics, football or baseball. Our program emphasizes proper form, technique, and gradual progression to ensure your child stays safe and healthy while building strength and fitness.

We focus on teaching proper mechanics first, ensuring that each athlete masters the fundamental movements before adding intensity. Our coaches provide consistent supervision, offering verbal cues, tactile feedback, and demonstrations. We also use real-life examples to help athletes understand proper body positions and muscle engagement. This approach has proven effective in minimizing the risk of injuries.

Your child will develop a broad range of physical skills, including strength, endurance, flexibility, and coordination. They will also gain confidence, discipline, and a sense of community. Because we train all three energy systems and vary workouts across broad time and modal domains, athletes will see improvements in both their general fitness and sports performance.

Yes, our program is designed to accommodate all fitness levels, including beginners. We start with a three-class ‘on-ramp’ program that teaches the major movement patterns: squat, press, and hinge. Once these fundamentals are mastered, we gradually introduce more complex movements like the clean and snatch. This progression allows each athlete to build a strong foundation before advancing.

Our coaches are skilled at working with athletes of all ability levels. We use a variety of teaching techniques, including clear demonstrations, tactile guidance, and real-life examples to help every athlete understand and master the movements at their own pace.

We start all athletes with a three-class 'on-ramp' program that focuses on mastering proper mechanics in key movement patterns like squats, presses, and hinges. Only once they demonstrate consistency do we introduce more complex lifts, like the clean and snatch. Our coaches closely monitor every workout to ensure safe and proper technique.

Each class is an hour long and includes four main components:
  1. General Warm-Up: Prepares the body for the workout, focusing on mobility and muscle activation.
  2. Strength Piece: This might involve Olympic lifts, powerlifting, or gymnastics movements, depending on the day.
  3. Metabolic Conditioning: A workout lasting anywhere from 3 to 25 minutes, designed to challenge endurance and stamina.
  4. Cool-Down: A period of stretching and recovery to ensure proper muscle recovery and flexibility.

Our coaches regularly check in with athletes about their nutrition and overall lifestyle, offering guidance on how to optimize their diet and habits for better performance and health. We believe that good nutrition and proper recovery are key components of a successful training program.

Yes, we provide all new athletes with a baseline macro plan and total calorie goals based on their activity level and personal objectives. Our app also offers a macro tracking program, helping athletes track and adjust their nutrition as they progress.

Functional fitness helps develop a strong physical and mental foundation that will benefit your child throughout their life. They’ll learn the value of integrity, resilience, and community while building physical strength, endurance, and flexibility. These skills and values translate well beyond the gym, contributing to academic success, emotional well-being, and overall life satisfaction.

Our program is scalable, meaning every workout can be modified to suit the individual’s ability and experience level. Whether your child is a beginner or a more advanced athlete, they will be challenged appropriately, ensuring progress while minimizing the risk of injury.

Our program uses the hopper system, which ensures that each workout is constantly varied. We train all three energy systems by varying workout lengths and intensities. This keeps workouts fresh and engaging while providing a balanced approach to fitness.

Each session is $25. The membership includes access to the Beyond the Whiteboard App and programming access for both the gym and home version of the daily workouts. Athletes are given a nutrition plan to optimize their performance and enhance their results. Finally, each athlete is given specific instruction based on their capability to maximize their athletic potential.
